Nussenzweig Paper Makes Cover of Cell

A recent paper (158(5):989-99, 2014) from the Nussenzweig lab was featured on the cover of the August 28, 2014, issue of Cell. Halper-Stromberg et al. focused on HIV-1 latent reservoirs, which are a major barrier to to an effective cure. These reservoirs are formed early and are thought to be stable over time in the presence of antiretroviral therapy, potentially leading to rapid viral rebound upon the cessation of therapy. However, the Nussenzweig lab has shown that broadly neutralizing antibodies administered early after infection are able to reduce the frequency of rebound viremia in humanized mice. This finding may represent a new therapeutic strategy.
