Scripps CHAVI-ID will be co-hosting the 2014 Glycoimmunology Workshop to be held at the University of California-San Diego on June 23-24. This workshop presents a cross-disciplinary and unique approach to the study of carbohydrates and immunity. Speakers - including Scripps CHAVI-ID Director Dennis Burton and Principal Investigators Max Crispin, Andrew Ward, and Ian Wilson - come from diverse backgrounds bringing expertise in various model systems of infectious diseases, autoimmunity and malignancy. The 2014 Glycoimmunology Workshop promises to promote crosspollination of cutting-edge ideas to address important clinical and research discoveries.
Scripps CHAVI-ID is also sponsoring a travel award in memory of Chris Scanlan to Simon Spiro, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford. Dr. Spiro's research focuses on quality control in protein folding pathways, specifically relating to misfolding of the HIV envelope V2 loop.
In addition to Scripps CHAVI-ID, the workshop is sponsored by The Scripps Research Institute; the Glycobiology Research and Training Center at UCSD; the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard; the University of California-San Diego; the National Institutes of Health; Harvard University; and Massachusetts General Hospital. Registration is free, and open to 250 participants.
